The HUP 6 facility contains the TIM-compatible, 3 Tesla scanner used for most of our neuroscience MR imaging studies.
There are two head coils manufactured by Siemens that are used for our neuroscience imaging: an 8-channel and a 32-channel coil.
The projector is a Sanyo XTRAX PLC xt35 { User's Manual } { Technical Specs } is located back of the scanner room. The connector is a VGA:
The projector is aimed at a front-surface mirror, angled to direct into the bore of the scanner. A translucent back-projection screen is positioned at the end of the bore.
After use, power down the projector first. Turn off power to the enclosure box at least 15 minutes later, to allow the projector to completely cool.
The video projection on the back-projected screen is 38.1 x 30.0 cms. For canine subjects in the multi-channel knee coil, the screen has a distance of 113.3 cms from the eyes. Therefore, the projection subtends 19.1 degrees horizontal x 15.2 degrees vertical.
For control of stimulus display, the spectral properties of the projector must occasionally be measured. This calibration is conducted using the PhotoResearch PR-650 device from the Brainard Lab. The general calibration technique is described on the Brainard Lab Wiki. For the HUp6 site, the PR-650 is set on a tripod outside of the scanner room, aimed at the back-projection screen. Lights in the scanner and control room are turned off, as is the light within the bore of the scanner. Lights are turned off within the control room. The Intel-based Mac PowerBook that is used for stimulus presentation is also used to run the calibration procedure. The CalibrateMonSpd
routine was used. The resulting file is stored in:
